Re: AB 4

Dear Governor Davis:

We write in support of AB 4. This important legislation will ensure that college and university police departments in California get the same type of information about convicted sex offenders in their communities that other police get.

Campus police need this information to protect their communities, which in addition to college students often includes young children on campus at day-care centers, participating in field trips, or other programs offered at the college. Without this information campus police don’t know how many sex offenders are on campus, and lack a critical investigatory tool once a sexual assault is reported on campus.

Please sign AB 4 at your earliest convenience, and take steps to ensure that campus police begin getting this critical information as soon as possible. Thank you in advance for your thoughtful consideration.
