1999 / 2000 Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Award Recipients
Asa T. Boynton, Corey LaTulippe, Jeffrey Levy, & Gail Minger
Asa T. Boynton
Asa T. Boynton, Director of Public Safety at the University of Georgia. Asa's ethics and commitment to uphold the law and protect those in his jurisdiction have never wavered. He has never sacrificed public safety for public image. With convictions comes courage.
Corey La Tulippe
Corey LaTulippe displayed fortitude to follow his conscience and take a public stand against hazing by the University of Vermont hockey team.
Courage is the ability to stand alone because of your convictions and accept the fact that often you will be the lone voice of reason in a cacophony of madness. Tragedy often provides the adrenaline to affect change.
Jeffrey Levy
Jeffrey Levy is to be applauded for being at the forefront to combat binge-drinking and supplant the alcohol-driven culture with a more responsible mindset.
Jeffrey Levy's son Jonathan died in an alcohol-related car accident while attending Radford University (VA). His mission has taken him from grass roots organizations to elected officials. Jeffrey Levy has made it possible for parental notification to be a reality and a viable preventive measure.
Gail Minger
Gail Minger has alerted the public that arson is a serious concern on college campuses. Gail Minger's son Michael died in an arson fire in his college dorm at Murray State (KY).
She has eloquently illustrated that if colleges abide by the law there are safeguards in place which can avoid senseless tragedies. Gail has single-handedly convinced Kentucky legislators to implement legislation to enforce sanctions that will make it harder for colleges to hide crime and to avoid being negligent in responding to hazardous situations.
