Clery Family Statement On Resentencing Of August 30, 2002

Jeanne Clery

Jeanne Clery was murdered on the campus of Lehigh University in 1986 by another student she did not know.

Easton, PA-In April 1987 a fair and legally proper trial was held. The judge’s charge to the jury was complete and in full compliance with Pennsylvania Law. Based on the overwhelming evidence, the jury’s verdict was murder in the first degree. Mitigating and aggravating circumstances were compiled and the sentence was death.

The Clery Family expresses profound thanks to Judge Franciosa and the sequestered jury from Lancaster.

Over the years, the State Supreme Court and the U.S. Supreme Court reviewed the appeals and let the verdict stand. It was a legal and moral verdict!!

Now, with Judge Brody’s “new law” decision, the Clery Family, with the kind advice and counsel of District Attorney Morganelli, has agreed to the re-sentencing procedure of this morning.

Jeanne died a horrible death at the hands of a sadistic, vicious, bigoted killer.

Shame on Judge Brody.

We thank the people of the Lehigh Valley for their support and compassion these last 16 years.
