September Is National Campus Safety Awareness Month

College is a fun and exciting time filled with tremendous educational and social opportunities, but America's campuses are not immune from many of the challenges faced by the outside world including crime. A total of 84 homicides; 7,941 sex offenses; 9,296 aggravated assaults; and 3,367 arsons were reported "on-campus" from 2001 to 2003 according to the U.S. Department of Education.

National Campus Safety Awareness MonthIn response colleges across the country are partnering with Security On Campus, Inc. to offer critically important student safety programming during the first few weeks of the school year as a part of the second annual National Campus Safety Awareness Month in September 2006. Beginning later this summer SOC will begin offering free educational programming for schools to use in September and we are also interested in learning about innovative programming that schools are using now that could be shared with other schools across the country.

If you would like to sign-up to receive more information about Safety Month programming when it becomes available or have a program that you would like to share please e-mail us at safetymonth@securityoncampus.org and we will follow-up with you about your request.
