Security On Campus Calls For Adoption Of NCAA Anti-Violence Policy

New York, N.Y.-Security On Campus, Inc. today, at a press conference in New York, joined an initiative calling for the adoption of an anti-violence policy by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Currently there are no uniform national guidelines on how colleges deal with student athletes accused or convicted of committing violent crimes.

"To date the NCAA has turned a blind eye to the victims of violent student athletes, leaving decisions about whether their assailants play or not up to individual schools," said Jennifer Mercurio on behalf of SOC. "Athletes should be held to a higher standard as public representatives of their schools, not given a pass for outrageous conduct. When an NCAA student athlete is accused of any violent crime they should immediately be suspended from competition until a school hearing, a common means used by colleges to discipline their students, can determine whether or not they are responsible. If they are found to be responsible, and or are convicted in criminal court, they should never play again at that school or any other NCAA school. Then we will finally begin to erode the epidemic of violent athletes."

Reward Raised To $25,000 For Information In Murder Of University of Missouri Professor

The University of Missouri Police Department (MUPD) continues to actively investigate the homicide of Jeong H. Im, a professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia. The homicide is believed to have occurred between 10:30 and 10:45 a.m. on Jan. 7, 2005 with an individual or individuals returning to the scene between noon and 12:20 p.m. that day to set fire to Im’s vehicle.

The University of Missouri-Columbia has raised the reward to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect or suspects who committed the Jan. 7 homicide of Prof. Im in the Maryland Avenue parking garage. Phone calls should be directed to 573-882-7203 or, if a caller wishes to remain anonymous, they may call Crime Stoppers at 573-875-TIPS. Revenue generated from parking violations will fund the reward. Updates will be posted as time permits at: http://www.mupolice.com/.
