Dear Supporter,

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to you for your past generous support of Security On Campus, Inc. which is a unique national resource. Student victims and their parents call us when they have nowhere else to turn. Here are the kinds of statements we hear from victims of rape:

Jeanne Clery “They told me if I took my case to campus judicial that they would find me guilty of having sex in the dorm”.

“After our daughter was raped she cut off all her beautiful hair. A month later we found her in the bathtub in the nick of time. She had slit her wrists.”

“I went right to the hospital but the campus police told me that if I had a rape kit done I would be required to press charges, so I didn’t have it done and now I have no evidence of the rape.”

We encourage victims to get professional counseling and to make the transition from “victim” to “survivor”. As you know, Security On Campus, Inc., a public 501 (c)(3), was established in 1987 after the violent rape and murder of our daughter Jeanne (pictured above right) to:

  • Make students, parents and educators aware that college campuses are the highest crime locations of most communities.
  • Require campuses to enforce federal and state laws regarding illegal distribution and use of narcotics and alcohol.
  • Provide educational presentations, printed materials and videos to high school and college students concerning sexual assault, binge drinking, drug abuse.
  • Provide aid and advice to student victims of violent crimes.

Your gift, you can contribute securely on-line by clicking here, is an investment in the future of our country’s most precious resource - our students. College rape is just one of our agendas - all of our programs are outlined below.

Gratefully,
Connie & Howard

SECURITY ON CAMPUS, INC. 2003 - 2004 PROGRAMS

  • To date, SOC has mailed over 12,000 award-winning binge drinking videos to universities and a growing number of requesting high schools. Did you know 20-30% of high school students regularly abuse drugs and alcohol?
  • Our campus safety expertise is sought out for scores of newspaper articles, TV and radio news shows every year. Often our media input is enough to influence universities to make the right decision in a case and to realize they can no longer sweep campus crime “under the rug”!
  • We have produced a two new educational videos. “Breaking the Silence” is geared toward educating young men and women about the legal, moral and psychologically damaging issues of sexual assault. “Dancing With Darkness” educates about the dangerous drug ecstasy, which has become very popular in the last few years.

  • Dr. Henry Wechsler, the Director of Harvard’s School of Public Health will be lending his expertise in developing a study guide which will accompany our two binge drinking videos, “Wasted Youth” and “The Best Years of Your Life?” Dr. Wechsler, the author of “Dying to Drink” is considered one of this country’s foremost experts on the problem of college drinking. We will also develop a study guide to accompany “Breaking the Silence” which deals with acquaintance rape.
  • We continue to get requests for our lifesaving bookmarks and pamphlets.
  • We counsel victims of campus crime and sexual assault with advice and practical strategies for getting their needs met.
A recent example is the following letter from a parent we advised: “I want to thank you so very much for taking the time to listen to my concerns about the situation with my son, Phillip, and giving me advice! Because of the information you provided his situation was resolved perfectly! I can’t tell you how much better I feel and definitely more empowered in my talk with the Dean of Students. Thanks again for your help and may God continue to bless you!”
  • We continue to be a clearinghouse of information for administrators, campus security professionals, lawyers, reporters, parents and students.
  • Our award-winning website is a unique and invaluable resource for parents, students, colleges, prep schools and high schools across the country. Experience it at http://www.securityoncampus.org/.
  • Our bi-annual “Campus Crime Watch” newsletter monitors the safety scene on college campuses nationwide.
  • We speak nationally at high schools, colleges and conferences about issues of importance to student safety.
  • We are consulting with the U.S. Department of Education to develop a plain language Clery Act Handbook to assist administrators in complying with the Clery Act and making their campuses safer.
  • With the help of SOC, the U.S. Department of Education has found over 400 schools in violation of the Clery Act.
