National College Alcohol Study Finds No Evidence That Widely Used Alcohol Prevention Programs Reduce Student Drinking
"The problem with social norms programs is that the norm on college campuses is already dangerous," said Catherine Bath, Program Director of Security On Campus. "A third of incoming college freshmen are binge drinkers when they arrive on campus! The solution is to present students with the truth and consequences of such a dangerous habit. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism Task Force on College Drinking study, released last year, estimated that 1,400 college students die each year from alcohol-related injuries, while 600,000 are assaulted by students who have drunk too much."
