William Paterson University Holds Telethon To Benefit Security On Campus, Inc.!
The April 12th telethon featured raffles, musical performances, a cookout, a "pie your professor" event where students could throw whipped cream pies at their favorite professors, a video game competition, a karaoke competition called "Campus Idol", and a stand up comedy show. SOC's executive director, Catherine Bath, unveiled their new online fundraising tool for the WPU telethon. Check it out at http://securityoncampus.kintera.org/. It is a super easy way for anyone who believes in SOC's mission to raise money for us. You can easily create your own page and email it to your family and friends! Catherine's two daughters each created their own fund raising pages last week which you can see online by clicking the link http://securityoncampus.kintera.org/. The telethon to benefit SOC was the brainchild of James Dowd, a grad student in WPU's film department. James had produced a powerful documentary for SOC in 2002 about the problem of college acquaintance rape called "Breaking the Silence". "Breaking the Silence" is the focal point of SOC's new Peer Education initiative, SAFE ON CAMPUS which is getting rave reviews from high schools students who have benefited from presentations this Spring.
