Clery Act Campus Crime Reporting Handbook Released The eagerly awaited "Handbook for Campus Crime Reporting" produced by the U.S. Department of Education (ED) with the assistance of Security On Campus, Inc. (SOC), the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators, and others in the higher education community was officially released today. It is available free for download from the SOC web site as an Adobe PDF document at http://www.securityoncampus.org/, and paper copies will be provided to each college and university by ED in the near future.
This handbook was developed to present step-by-step procedures, examples, and references for higher education institutions to follow in meeting federal Clery Act campus crime reporting and crime victim assistance requirements. SOC, with the help of U.S. Senator Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, secured an appropriation from Congress in 2003 to specifically fund the creation and publication of the handbook in response to concerns about lack of clear guidance. Individual copies may be ordered from ED at http://www.edpubs.org/ or by calling (877) 4337827 toll-free.
